Farmer Profile: Natural & Local LLC

Agriculture has always been a part of Dasharath Lohar’s life. “My wife and I both grew up on a small farm in Nepal. We were closely involved with growing crops on our parents’ subsistence natural farms, so agriculture is our second nature.” Dasharath believes that sustainable, organic agricultural practices can provide the world with nutritious food while supporting the well-being of our planet.

“We believe everyone should have access to a balanced, plant-based diet to remain healthy. At the same time, we need to farm in such a way that the land also remains healthy. Nourishing people and the planet are our main drivers.”

In addition to a plethora of hands-on farming experience, Dasharath also has an impressive educational background in the field. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Dasharath went on to receive a master’s degree in Horticulture Breeding, a PhD in Agriculture Biotechnology, and an MBA in Innovation Management and Marketing. While working at a research station in Nepal, he published several articles about organic farming practices.

Dasharath and his wife began their farm business, Natural & Local LLC, at Good Hope Farm earlier this year on a ½ acre plot. Their goal is to grow vegetables that are popular in the Indian subcontinent, like Dolichos beans, pointed gourds, and pumpkin shoots. “Our goal is to learn from our small operation at Good Hope Farm and take it to a level where the local population will seek out our produce for themselves and for a better planet,” Dasharath says. “We have the skill, the vision, and the drive to serve the society. [The] only thing lacking at this time is the capital needed to serve more people.” Natural & Local LLC will soon have produce available for sale; follow us on Facebook to learn more about where you can find food and flowers from the Good Hope Farm farmers.
